Known data: Argentina is a world power in food production. Another fact, as true as the previous one, but less revealed: we are leaders in knowledge-based services, with already global companies, a hub of technology-based startups and a globally recognized entrepreneurial ecosystem.
AgTech emerges from this crossover, a growing niche due to the growing demand for food for a growing population, which demands to produce more with fewer resources, less impact on the environment, new requirements and in a world competitive where every cent invested counts. How to get there? Increased yields through the development of technologies and processes.
This scenario opens great prospects for the local AgTech ecosystem. As users of technologies to improve the productivity of the local agri-food sector and as producers of globally requested and exportable solutions. As Mauricio Macri told La Rural last week, our field is already a power, but we must lift the bar: by 2030, we will have to produce food for 800 million people, and the only way is to integrate technology.
Our challenge is twofold: to continue to educate producers and businesses about the benefits of applying technology in their production and marketing chain, but also to place the local AgTech ecosystem on the international trade map, so that each start-up finds someone who believes in his future. project and finance it, or that those who already have a development can prevail in more markets around the world.
Nearly three years ago, we created the national AgTech Mesa (Magna) project, bringing together universities, research centers, badociations, entrepreneurs, producers, businesses, accelerators, venture capital funds, national and provincial governments. We are working on different initiatives, including AgTech Week, an international meeting that closes today its second edition (the first in 2018).
For five days, we explained to a delegation of 40 representatives from the United States, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Japan, Chile, Peru and France, why our country wants and can be the protagonist of this new stage of digitization and the emergence of new technologies.
In Córdoba, 30 Argentinian startups presented their developments in a real field to 250 local and international producers and companies. In Rosario, we visited the Renova factory and the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology, we organized the AgTech Summit at the Aapresid Congress and an open forum on investment and the # 39; innovation. Finally, we will present in Buenos Aires the overview of venture capital and the offer of startups in the region for investors.
In conclusion, the world of investors is very interested in the commercial landscape that agrotechnologies open up in the country. We have also strengthened our position as an international reference in this sector, relying on measures such as the Knowledge Economy Act, which further improves the conditions of global competition. And we are opening new fronts to continue to deepen all that we have done in recent years to empower AgTech, and continue to revolutionize, with Argentine talent and innovation, the path of agro-industrial production in our country. And in the world.
