Argentina enters the world's top 20 ranking of tourism meetings

The latest ICCA World Report, covering 200 countries, indicates that Argentina has recorded an annual growth of 17% and a historic record of 232 international congresses in 2018.

The country has 50 destinations prepared for international events and 32 convention and visitor offices and, in 2018, at least one international event took place on 30 of them.

The city of Buenos Aires was at the top of the list with 133 meetings, followed by the cities of Córdoba with 21; Mendoza, with 14; Salta, nine, and La Plata, with seven events.

According to the same ranking, the Argentine capital has reaffirmed its leadership in America, where it occupies the same position for the tenth consecutive year, while globally, it occupies the eleventh place.

Tourism Secretary Gustavo Santos said meeting tourism "is another fundamental factor for the growth of foreign visitor arrivals, for the development of regional economies and for strengthening federalism in our sector" .

"Thanks to the team work between the public and private spheres," he added in a statement, "we can achieve excellent results and the latest CICA ranking reports on them."

Meetings tourism is one of the most dynamic segments of the world and generates a global economic impact of more than 400 billion dollars a year.
