Argentina fell to last place in international ranking on pandemic management

In the midst of the second wave of coronavirus and the progress of the vaccination plan, Argentina fell in May to last place in an international ranking that assesses the management of the pandemic in 53 countries.

According to the “Resilience Ranking” established by the Bloomberg agency, on the basis of health, social and economic parameters, among others, the country lost two places and was at the bottom of the list last month.

Although the pandemic is currently focused on Latin America and India, Argentina has performed worse than Colombia, Brazil and Peru, to name a few examples. And it was also three places below India, the second country with the most contaminations since the onset of the disease.

Bloomberg, which analyzes only economies with a GDP exceeding $ 200,000 million, estimated that the countries which vaccinated the most reflected in their number an increase in the list.

So in the first positions there were also changes. Praised for its handling of the virus, the Asia-Pacific region was the star of the seven biggest drops this month in measurement. Singapore lost the throne to New Zealandwhile Taiwan and Japan slipped out of the top 10 amid a slow vaccination campaign and a resurgence of cases. Meanwhile, some of the world’s deadliest epidemics continued in parts of Southeast and South Asia.

In contrast, the United States and parts of Europe rose as the pandemic slowly receded in those places. With the increasing protection of vaccines, they are reopening travel, eliminating the use of chin straps and trying to leave Covid-19 behind. The UK jumped seven places to 11th, while the US came in 13th.

In Europe, there have been significant improvements. France and Poland climbed 18 and 13 places respectively as new infections in both countries slowed, allowing them to ease restrictions, gradually reopen business and resume regional travel.

The Czech Republic also climbed 13 places and Norway eight places. Finally, Italy, which a year ago was the tragic epicenter in the fight against the virus, has jumped seven places, easing restrictions on businesses and general lockdowns after a decrease in severe cases.
