The 2019 ranking of happiness does not smile to the Argentineans. It turns out that the country has grown from 29 to 47 years in this international measure, which is carried out each year with the support of the United Nations (UN) and Columbia University.
Argentina was just among the 50 happiest nations, in a list of 156 countries led by Finland, Denmark and Norway. The least fortunate on the list are Afghanistan, the Central African Republic and South Sudan.
How is it measured
The report was released today, in commemoration of the
International Day of Happiness and evaluates the quality of life of people through "a variety of measures of subjective well-being", as shown in the document of this ranking published for seven years.
But the measure of happiness also takes into account other variables such as education levels of each population, social support, government effectiveness, life expectancy or corruption, EFE reported.
Iceland, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Sweden are behind the three Nordic countries that make up the podium.
The first non-European country on the list is New Zealand, in eighth place, followed by Canada.
Austria completes the top ten places and Costa Rica is in 12th place, a place less than Australia.
The comparison with 2018
In regards to
Happiness report 2018, Argentina has been surpbaded by countries such as Chile (26th rank), Guatemala (27), Brazil (32), Uruguay (33), El Salvador (35) , Colombia (43), Nicaragua (45). Kosovo ranks 46th, behind Kosovo, among the happiest nations.
Of these countries, only Chile and Brazil surpbaded Argentina in the previous rankings.
The United Nations General Assembly decreed in 2012 that March 20 was declared International Happiness Day. He did so with the intention of "recognizing the relevance of happiness and well-being as universal aspirations of human beings and the importance of their inclusion in government policies" .
The agency also recognizes "the need to apply a more inclusive, equitable and balanced approach to economic growth that promotes sustainable development, the eradication of poverty, happiness and well-being of all peoples ".
The International Day of Happiness was first celebrated in 2013 and, according to the United Nations, was determined "as recognition of the important role happiness plays in the lives of people around the world".
