Argentine government sent plane to Cuba with syringes, needles, surgical masks, gloves and other medical supplies to help the islanders cope with the coronavirus pandemic. The operation benefited from the contribution of the White Helmets and the Argentine Movement for Solidarity with Cuba, among other organizations.
The transfer was made on board a Hercules of the Argentine Air Force which landed this Sunday on the runway of the José Martí International Airport in Havana, where he was received by the Minister of Science, Technology and Environment of Cuba, Elba Rosa Pérez Montoya, and by the Ambassador of Argentina on the island, Luis Alfredo Ilarregui.
After the landing, according to the Sputnik news agency, the Argentinian diplomat insisted on the need “to improve and widen the historical bonds of friendship” between the two countries.
Solidarity charge
The solidarity cargo sent by Argentina includes 517,600 disposable syringes, 31,000 needles, 10,000 N95 masks, 10,000 surgical masks, 1,000 protective shields, 10,000 gloves, 2,000 disposable medical gowns, 10,000 vial packs, among other medical supplies.
The White Helmets Commission, an organ of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship of Argentina responsible for designing and executing humanitarian aid, based on cooperation, solidarity and community participation, participated to the operation.
This is not the first time since the start of the pandemic that aid of this type has been produced. On June 1, members of the Argentine Movement for Solidarity with Cuba (MasCuba), the Union of Cuban Residents in Argentina (URCA) and other popular groups sent a donation of 380,000 syringes and 359,000 needles to be used. in the mass immunization program. against the coronavirus which is developing on the island.
They also made community donations in Cuba -which is going through an economic crisis aggravated by the effects of the pandemic and by the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States- other countries like Russia, Mexico, Nicaragua, Bolivia, Spain, Italy, Venezuela, China and Vietnam.
