Argentine steel will enter the European Union without tariff

Through the Chancery, the government celebrated the resolution from the European Commission, which after several months badyzed Argentina's request and finally settled in favor of the Argentine steel sector.

The main products exported by Argentina are rolled steel sheets and strips, metal cladding sheets, tin products and seamless steel tubes.

The decision will guarantee the export of steel products to the EU market only between 2012 and 2017, business figure recorded for 188 million euros, according to data from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"Our government is working from day one to ensure that Argentinian companies compete in the best possible conditions, and in this context, it is a feat of singular importance," said the Chancellor. . Jorge Faurie, according to a press release.

For its part, Horacio Reyser, Foreign Economic Relations Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stressed the country's commitment to "open markets and promote exports" by ratifying this "top priority" for the government of Mauricio Macri.

In March 2018, the European Commission launched an investigation to the application of safeguard measures for virtually all imports of steel products and more than 300 tariff items were grouped into 28 product groups under investigation.

As the investigation is ongoing, Argentina has succeeded in seeking and baderting its right to be excluded from the application of said measures, which included an additional customs duty of 25% and that the country should not consider for its steel exports.
