Armed Forces Sex Scandal Shakes Canada | the Chronicle

The Conservative Party of Canada, an opponent, called for the impeachment of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s chief of staff, Katie Telford.

Amid a sexual misconduct scandal in the country’s armed forces, the force’s chief Erin O’Toole said today.

Trudeau faces backlash after months of political unrest after multiple accusations of inappropriate sexual behavior have been leveled against the former head of stateo The country’s Defense Major, General Jonathan Vance, and his successor, Admiral Art McDonald, who was forced to step down temporarily and is under investigation into allegations of misconduct dating back to 2010.

Trudeau, who vowed to take a zero-tolerance approach to allegations of sexual behavior when taking office, said his office was aware of the complaints but not the nature of the allegations.

Media reports suggest Telford was aware of the allegations as early as 2018.

“If the Prime Minister is telling the truth and wants Canadians to believe he was unaware of a sexual misconduct complaint filed against Mr. Vance, he should fire his chief of staff,” O ‘said Toole at a press conference.

The Tory leader alleged that Telford toned down Vance’s behavior and subsequently orchestrated a cover-up to hide information from the Prime Minister and the public.

He stressed that not holding his top adviser accountable would be an admission of dishonesty on Trudeau’s part.

Canada’s main opposition parties, the Conservatives, the Quebec Bloc and the New Democrats, are pushing for Telford to testify before the Defense Committee, but the Liberals in power are blocking the attempts.

The political crisis has forced the Government to promote an independent review of inappropriate sexual behavior in the armed forces.
