At least ten people died on Wednesday at a traffic accident in Texas when a van they were traveling in crashed and that it was overloaded with immigrant workers, according to various local media.

The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that the accident involving this vehicle on route 281 is under investigation, south of the town of Encino, near the border with Mexico.

As the Brooks County Sheriff stated, the vehicle was carrying around 30 people. From what the newspaper published The New York Times, a border officer said the van was traveling at high speed when it made a sharp turn and crashed into a pole.

In the accident at least ten people died and a dozen were injured.

For its part, the television channel ABC citing sources from the Texas Department of Public Safety and Brooks County, the occupants of the van were illegal immigrants.

However, the authorities specified that the vehicle was not involved in a chase that took place in the area just prior to the accident.

The event, recorded this Wednesday afternoon, it joins other fatal traffic accidents in vehicles transporting immigrants in recent months in the United States.

On March 16, eight undocumented immigrants were killed in a traffic accident in Del Río, a town on the Texas border, in the midst of a police chase.

The accident happened two weeks after another truck overloaded with 25 immigrants suffered another serious accident in which 13 illegal immigrants died, mostly Mexicans, who had just crossed the border illegally.

“We think there was 25 passengers in the SUV [vehículo liviano de tipo todoterreno urbano] who collided with a semi-trailer full of gravel, ”said Judy Cruz, emergency manager at El Centro medical center, a town near the US border with Mexico.

According to Cruz, at least 14 passengers died at the scene of the accident and another died after being transferred to hospital, where six other people were admitted to the emergency room.

At least Five other victims of the collision, which occurred under undetermined circumstances, were evacuated by helicopter at Pioneers Memorial Hospital in Brawley, also in California, Cruz said at an online press conference.

“As you can imagine, patients are going through a difficult period “said Adolphe Edward, executive director of El Centro regional medical center. “It was a serious accident and we are treating them in the emergency room.”

According to California Highway Patrol member Jack Sanchez, speaking to United States today, the SUV involved in the accident was a Ford Expedition, model which admits eight passengers maximum, according to the manufacturer’s page.

The accident happened shortly after 6 a.m. on national road 115near Holtville, about six miles north of the US-Mexico border, according to emergency services.
