A three-story building collapsed on Wednesday in the Spanish city of Peñíscola, in the Valencian Community, and there are at least three people stuck, according to firefighter sources.

The incident, the causes of which are unknown at the moment, occurred in a building of approximately twenty departments located in this coastal town.

Five teams of firefighters were transferred to the scene, as well as personnel from the rescue and rescue units, the canine unit and the machinery and logistics unit, according to the same sources.

The mayor of Peñíscola, Andrés Martínez, confirmed in statements to La Sexta that the two police officers, firefighters and the Civil Guard were carrying out rescue operations at the scene of the accident.

“In addition, medical services are also on standby in case anyone trapped is found alive.”

According to the newspaper La Vanguardia, there are three people trapped, one of whom aware and able to communicate with rescue teams.

According to investigations, firefighters are set to rule out an explosion as the cause of the incident, as city council works to relocate affected residents.
