August 8th: International Day of Cats

Cats have three celebrations a year and for different reasons. Every August 8, October 29 and February 20 marks the International Cat Day.

Of the three dates, today is the most important. This date was established in 2002 when the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) and other animal rights groups decided to implement it. The date recalls that, although cats are domestic, they can be a danger for wildlife and therefore require some attention.

On the IFAW website, they said: "Domestic cats retain much of their hunter skills as a result of years of evolution, making them one of the the most effective and deadly predators in the world ".

Meanwhile, October 29 is celebrated by Colleen Paige, an expert in the pet lifestyle, to promote animal welfare.

And the 20th of February was created by Internet users after the death of Socks, the cat adopted by the Clintons and famous for his walk to the White House, who died on February 20th, 2009. The date was set in his honor to honor all the felines of the world.
