Australia showed color photos of the last Tasmanian tiger – News

The Australian government has released images of the last Tasmanian tiger, who died in 1935, to promote historical memory of violence against wildlife on National Endangered Species Day.

This species has been pushed to extinction by poaching and the advance of urbanization on its natural territory. Benjamin, the last specimen, lived in captivity until his last breath.

Before his death, analog videos were taken of him and are held in the collection of the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA).

Now a team of experts have added some color to the last saved artwork, and you can see how it stretches out to sunbathe in its cage. As you can see, the animal is a hybrid between a hyena and a tiger and has a few stripes on the back of its body.

The video was originally shot on black and white film by naturalist David Fleay, at Beaumaris Zoo, Hobart.
