The Russian Fund for Direct Investments (FIDR) announced on Tuesday that This month, clinical trials of the combined vaccine Sputnik V and the British drug AstraZeneca will begin in Azerbaijan.
As the FIDR specifies in a press release, the investigation aims to assess the safety of the combination of the two vaccines, as well as its ability to improve immunity against Covid-19.
The trials will take place over six months and will benefit from the participation of around 100 volunteers from each country that decides to carry it out.. Azerbaijan is the first country to allow the investigation.
The managing director of the Russian sovereign wealth fund, Kiril Dmitriev, said in a statement that “to defeat the coronavirus, we must join forces”.
“We are ready to develop cooperation with other manufacturers (of vaccines) in order to increase the quantity of effective and accessible preparations”, he added.
Last December, the Russian companies responsible for the development and manufacture of Sputnik V signed a memorandum of cooperation with AstraZeneca to conduct research to create a combined vaccine against Covid-19.
