Bangladesh: more than 80 people killed by a huge fire in Dhaka, the capital – 20/02/2019

At least 81 people died and half a cent was injured in a gigantic fire which has enveloped several buildings in the last hours in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh.

The fire started on Wednesday in a three-storey building in the region, around 11:40 pm (2:40 pm in Argentina), then spread to several houses in the popular Chawkbazar market in the old city of Dhaka, several local media.

According to the fire control station, 37 units from 31 stations participated in the extinguishing tasks. The fire was already under control in the morning of this Thursday, after nine hours of work.

Deputies Haji Md Salim and Shayeed Khokon, from the Mayor's office, also went to the scene of the fire to coordinate the relief efforts of the victims and the wounded.

"Our priority now is to completely extinguish the fire and treat the wounded," Khokon told reporters, but according to informants, he did not answer questions about buildings in which flammable materials are stored without security measures.

The causes that caused the fire are unknown, it quickly spread to about seven or eight adjacent buildings at Haji Wahed Manor.

But according to Rezaul Karim, a witness who quotes Dhaka Tribunefirst, he exploded a bottle of gas in a car located in front of the building in which the fire is declared.
