BBC reporter who interviewed Princess Diana in 1995 apologized for misleading her

BBC reporter Martin Bashir, who tricked Princess Diana into getting an interview in 1995, apologized to Princes William and Henry on Sunday., but considers it “unreasonable” to link his actions to the death of his mother.

According to Guillermo, the interview helped further deteriorate the relationship between his parents and “Fueled the fear, paranoia and isolation of the past few years” of Diana’s life.

Enrique linked his mother’s death to “the domino effect of this culture of exploitation and unethical practices.”

Diana died in a car accident in Paris in 1997, at the age of 36.

“I don’t think I can be held responsible for most of the things that happened in her life and the complex issues surrounding those decisions.”Bashir said. “I think to suggest that I am individually responsible is unreasonable and unfair.”

The 1995 interview was seen by nearly 23 million viewers in the UK. It was conducted under Diana’s conditions, he claimed, and the two remained friends thereafter.

“My family and I love it,” he added. He revealed that Princess Diana visited his wife and newborn son in the hospital and that she had a birthday party for one of her children at Kensington Palace.

He said he regretted the fake accounts, but assured that they had “nothing to do” with the revelations made during the interview.

Diana claimed there were “three people” in her marriage – referring to Carlos’ relationship with Camila Parker Bowles – and admitted to committing adultery.

Bashir was little known at the time, but then had a successful career and interviewed Michael Jackson.

The pop star complained to the British audiovisual regulator that Bashir had given a distorted image of his behavior and conduct as a father.

The reporter then worked for the BBC as a correspondent for religious matters until he resigned last week for health reasons.
