Bergoglio has definitively empowered the theology of liberation

At 91, Gustavo Gutiérrez will finally be accepted by the Vatican. After the friendly letter that Pope Francisco addressed to him in 2018 to greet him on the occasion of his 90th birthday, the Peruvian theologian will be the central figure of a meeting organized by the Pontifical Commission for the Year. Father of the so-called "theology of liberation", for which he faces the Vatican for years, Gutiérrez was born on June 8, 1928 in Lima to a family of Quechua and Spanish origins.

In 1947 he entered the Faculty of Medicine of the National University of San Marcos, but his participation in Catholic Action aroused in him a priestly vocation. He became a priest in 1959 after studying in Belgium and France.
