Berlin police linked shooting to organized crime

The German prosecution considers that the shooting which took place this morning in Berlin, and which left at least four seriously injured, is linked to organized crime in the German capital.

The shooting started around 4 a.m. local time in the Kreuzberg district, west of the city, and not from the headquarters of the German Social Democratic Party, as initially feared.

Residents alerted police to the shooting, which found three men injured at the scene of the shooting and a fourth who had jumped into a canal. The age of the victims is between 30 and 42 years old.

As soon as the injured were evacuated, the police launched a search and capture operation on foot and using helicopters.

The prosecutor’s office confirmed that “several suspects are under investigation for attempted murder in organized crime” but so far no arrests have been made.

West Berlin has been the scene of a significant number of disputes between different clans in recent years. A final shootout involved a dozen people dotting a Kreuzberg apartment after a rival clan shot dead a 29-year-old man.
