Many can commit some spelling mistake, but if this error is found on a gigantic sign at the entrance of a city, it is difficult for it to go unnoticed. This week, hundreds of Twitter users posted images of a large sign in Santa Ana, western El Salvador, which read “Welcome“Instead of” welcome. “To top it off, very enlightened.

A tweeter said, “Can someone from #SantaAna confirm the veracity of this image, please? I still don’t believe it, ”he said, leaving a margin of doubt. Maybe it was an edited photo and a bad joke. But soon other messages appeared on this social network confirming the spelling error at the entrance to the city.

“I refuse to believe it!” Said one commentator. “Stupid in a row: the one who made the art, the one who approved it, the one who made the letters of the word, ”wrote a tweeter. The complaints were mainly aimed at the Municipality of Santa Ana for such a setback.

“Every mistake made by governments, whether central or local, costs people money. Every mistake comes at a cost to people, ”one Twitter user commented.

Clean slate

Within hours of the error being disclosed on Twitter, the “welcome” poster has been removed. The tweeters noted that the quick reaction came thanks to the pressure on social media.

Then he appeared on the social network of microblogging a message from the mayor of Santa Ana, Gustavo Acevedo, in which he dissociated himself from the error. “I would like to inform that this sign at the entrance to Santa Ana has not been placed by the municipality. It was installed by the @scffedecaces cooperative network and it was deleted due to its obvious spelling error, ”he wrote.

“It is very unfortunate that, being a very prestigious company, it does not comment and it is the municipality that must clarify this unfortunate situation”, added Acevedo.

The spelling error sparked a crossroads of accusations in the city.

The next step was the clarification of the aforementioned company, which made its dump on Facebook by partially detaching itself from the problem and blaming a supplier. “We are referring to the situation caused by the decoration and lighting of the Monsignor Óscar Arnulfo Romero roundabout in Santa Ana. As an institution, we regret what happened, our supplier was responsible, by not sending or notifying us when placing the illuminated letters, for approval yesterday, ”they said.

“Noting the painful spelling error, the same night, the relevant correction was made. In this sense, we apologize to the entire population of Santana and the municipal authorities, for the inconvenience caused (…) As an institution we regret the eviction of the decoration and lighting of the Redondel, recital that our only intention was always to bring support and color to these dates, even in difficult times», They concluded.
