Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has predicted that the world will face a new pandemic in the very near future, the worst-case scenario in 2023, but that its impact will be “less destructive” than that caused by the coronavirus.
In a conversation with actress Rashida Jones and epidemiologist Anthony Fauci, in a podcast published in Gates Notes, the philanthropist predicted that “hopefully” the new pandemic “could be in 20 years.”
“We have to assume it could be three years from now,” Gates warned, and said the impact of the new pandemic would be “less destructive” because “we will have practiced” how to act.
“We have played disease games, like war games, and almost any country will react like South Korea or Australia did, where they are testing and quickly quarantining people; and our tools test will be much better. We won’t be so stupid the second time around, “he added.
On the flip side, he said: “I know it’s hard to imagine as new cases are popping up around the world, but there will come a time when the COVID-19 pandemic has passed. I think it’s safe to assume that society will change forever, given how the virus has disrupted virtually every aspect of our lives. “
Meanwhile, he concluded: “Dr Fauci and I are optimistic that a vaccine will end the pandemic at some point in the near future. But what the world will look like after that is much less clear.”
