Bodies of children appear on a beach in Libya after the sinking of the ships on which they were trying to reach Europe

Terrible photographs appeared with strong images of corpses of young children on a Libyan beach, revealing the scale of the human tragedy amid the migration crisis on the borders of Europe.

The images were shared by Twitter, on the account of the founder of the NGO Proactiva Open Arms, Oscar Camps, who said that the children they were traveling with their parents in one of the many boats that have left Libya in recent days.

“I am still in shock at the horror of these images.”Oscar Camps wrote on Twitter. “These young children and women had dreams and ambitions for life.”

The shocking images were reproduced by various international press portals and according to Nancy Porsia, an Italian journalist expert in Libya, the beach where the bodies were found is believed to be in Zuwara and the footage was reportedly taken last Saturday, when the Libyan army collected the children’s bodies and buried them near Abu Qamash.

These striking photographs are reminiscent of the now iconic photo of Alan Kurdi, a three-year-old boy found dead face down on a Turkish beach in 2015. This powerful image has traveled the world and sparked global interest in the refugee crisis in Europe and Asia.

The situation in Libya is critical, however, according to the UN, it is not yet known how many victims have left Libya in recent days and what happened to their boats.

“These are dramatic images”, said Flavio Di Giacomo, a United Nations spokesperson in Italy. “We are trying to get to the bottom of it with our colleagues in Libya. There are many shipwrecks that are never recorded. We cannot exclude that it may be part of it ”.

Since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi from power during the demonstrations of the Arab Spring of 2011, Libya has not regained stability. On the contrary, during the last decade, a social, political and military crisis has worsened, which has plunged the country into a situation of economic precariousness and internal conflict.

This motivated many people to flee to European countries in search of a a better quality of life and minimum guarantees for your personal safety.

In recent weeks, thousands of people have left Libya for the European coast, a situation which is aggravated by human traffickers who take advantage of this situation to launch dozens of illegal boats whether they reach their destination or not.

Last week, Tunisian authorities said dozens of people were killed in a shipwreck off the coast of Tunisia, while more than 130 people were killed in April when his inflatable boat sank in rough seas off the Libyan coast.

According to the United Nations Migration Agency, some 630 people have died in the central Mediterranean this year trying to reach Europe.

Tuesday, the Italian Prime Minister, Mario draghi, met the French president, Emmanuel Macron, in Brussels to discuss the management of migrant arrivals and the prospects for stabilization in Libya and Central Africa with the help of strengthened Franco-Italian cooperation.

Draghi and Macron agreed on the need for close and constant coordination between Rome and Paris so that the EU has a more incisive role in Africa, Ansa informed.

Meanwhile, the face of this problem unfortunately continues to be the kids, the most innocent victims of a humanitarian situation which is proving more and more cruel and inhuman.
