Doctor Javier Diez Canseco, quoted in the official report, indicated that there is no person-to-person contagion, because the mucormycotic fungus is in the soil, in the fruits, in the bread which remains stored and “in the dirt that keeps in the house “.

Another professional, María del Rosario Castro, explained that the patient initially presented with tooth decay “which was not normal”, and that he was previously treated in intensive care because of the coronavirus.

The Bolivian Ministry of Health added that the medical treatment provided to the patient had been successful.

According to the professional explanation, mucormycosis is an infection caused by fungi that can affect the nasal passages and lungs. Cases of “black fungus” have been detected in India, Iraq, Iran, Uruguay and Guatemala.

Bolivia has more than 474,500 infections and more than 17,850 deaths from the coronavirus, with a population of 11.5 million.
