Boy had surgery to remove needle stuck in his penis and they had to use unprecedented surgical technique

A 10-year-old boy in Iran had a sewing needle removed from his penis and got stuck in his urethra.

The boy was taken to hospital after he pushed the 3 inch long object into the hole in his genitals and tried to pull it out for three hours without success.

The medical case was reported in a scientific article published in the journal Urology case reportsIn order to extract the needle, the surgeons had to implement a novel tactic.

Doctors said the needle was inserted into the urethra at the blunt end, leaving the sharp part protruding from the glans. It is not known what motivated the child to insert the needle but the researchers cited, among others, curiosity, pleasure or a brief psychological episode.

However, they also pointed out that the boy had no history of mental health issues. Although details of the case are sparse, X-rays have been reported to show the sharp object in a position that makes it difficult to remove using normal methods, such as pushing it out of the penis through the same urethra.

After giving your child anesthesia to numb the area, they manually pushed the blunt end of the needle until the sharp point penetrated the skin and pulled it through that hole.

Serajoddin Vahidi, the senior urologist at Shahid Sadoughi University who treated him, He said it was the first time that the method has been applied successfully.

When objects get stuck in the urethra, they can sometimes be physically squeezed through the tip of the penis.

But the doctors who treated the boy they were concerned that removing the needle by this method would carry a high risk of damaging their genitals.

Six months after the procedure, the boy was able to urinate without any problem, which suggests that the procedure did not cause any lasting damage.

Doctors added that pediatric psychiatry was consulted before the patient was discharged after ruling out child abuse and other disorders.

The authors of the case report said that his new method represents an alternative technique to entering through the opening of the penis and removing similar objects.

Sometimes, if objects inserted into the penis cannot be removed due to their size or position, the patient must undergo surgery to remove the object.

In China, a 14-year-old boy had to undergo two-hour surgery to remove an 11cm acupuncture needle that had been inserted into his penis to help him stay awake while he studied.

Children are known to put foreign objects in their mouths, ears, noses and eyes out of curiosity.
