Brazilian firefighters said on Friday that at least 200 people were reported missing after a dam broke in the municipality of Brumadinho, in the state of Minas Gerais (southeast).

According to information collected by the local newspaper 'O Globo', at least four people were admitted to a nearby hospital.

Earlier reports reported at least seven deaths, while President Jair Bolsonaro ordered the dispatch of army troops to the quake zone.

The Civil Defense had indicated a few hours earlier that he was working in the area in search of potential victims and had ordered the evacuation of residents of the area.

For its part, the company that manages the dam, Vale, has announced the activation of an emergency plan. "Vale's top priority right now is to preserve and protect the lives of employees and community members," he said.
