Amid the health collapse caused by the second wave of the pandemic and new variants of the coronavirus, Brazil announced this Friday the creation of its own vaccine, the Butanvac, developed by the Institute Butantán de San Pablo state. Authorities have already sought permission from regulatory bodies to begin testing it in humans.
“This is a historic announcement to the world. The 100% national vaccine, with promising tests and the result of the work of a 120-year-old institution, which is the largest producer of vaccines in the southern hemisphere, ”said São Paulo Governor Joao Doria from the headquarters of the state laboratory in Sao Paulo.
In the evening, on her Twitter profile, Doria anticipated the news in a video released after the meeting he had with the director of the Butantán Institute, Dimas Covas.
