Brazil has recorded 3,808 deaths from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours

Brazil has recorded 3,808 deaths associated with COVID-19 in the past 24 hours and has accumulated 358,425 since the start of the pandemic, just over a year ago, the government reported on Tuesday.

In its daily report, the Ministry of Health reported 82,186 new coronavirus infections, with which the total balance of those infected rose to 13,599,994, at a time when the country is facing the worst phase of the pandemic.

Brazil is the second country with the most deaths and confirmed cases of the disease, just behind the United States, although it is currently the place on the planet where most people die from covid-19, with an average exceeding 3,000 deaths per day.

The lack of control of the pandemic in the country has raised international concern and on Tuesday France joined the list of countries which have suspended “until further notice” flights from Brazil in an attempt to prevent the expansion of the Brazilian variant of the coronavirus.

The suspension must be approved by the National Assembly and the Senate before entering into force on Wednesday and its announcement represents a change in criteria by the French government, who until now opposed the suspension of air links.

“The situation in Brazil is absolutely dramatic and the danger of the variant in question poses real difficulties for us,” Prime Minister Jean Castex warned today.

Health authorities believe that The Brazilian variant, known as P.1, which is up to three times more transmissible than its predecessors, has, along with other factors, led to the explosion of cases in Brazil..

The spread of the virus has put the health system in ruins or on the verge of it in various regions of Brazil, including São Paulo, the richest and most populous and the one with the best hospital structure.

In contrast, during the week that lasted April 4 to 11, Latin America reported the highest number of infections and deaths from covid-19 since the start of the pandemic. The numbers, which have increased at a dizzying rate in many countries in the region, are due to the rapid spread of new variants of the disease

Most of these infections and deaths correspond to Brazil, which has the region’s largest population., but also the highest death toll per capita in Latin America.
