Building collapsed in Miami and hundreds of rescuers are on the scene

A partial building collapse in Miami sparked a massive response early Thursday from Miami Dade Fire Rescue., according to a tweet from the ministry’s account.

So far, it is not known whether there are any deaths or injuries. However, dozens of rescue teams are located at Collins Avenue.

More than 80 MDFR units including #TRT (Rescue Technical Teams) are on site with the help of municipal fire departments“The tweet read.

The disaster area was surrounded by the authorities, who are currently working to search for victims and remove debris.

The collapse is estimated to have occurred shortly after 2 a.m. (local time). A man who was on vacation with his family and was staying in a hotel across the street said it looked like an earthquake. Others described hearing a loud boom at the time of the collapse, reported ABC News.

Built in 1981, the Champlain Towers have 12 floors and have over 100 condo units and are oceanfront. The building is located at 8777 Collins Ave, in the Surfside community (Miami-Dade County), and is located about five miles north of Miami Beach.

The authorities still do not know what could have caused the collapse of the building.
