Bukele’s party won 61 of the 84 seats in El Salvador’s Congress

The New Ideas party (NI), founded by a movement of the president Nayib Bukele, led 61 deputies in Congress and most of the mayors of the 262 municipalities of El Salvador, as confirmed on Friday by the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE).

According to the data of the electorate, NI obtained 17 deputies for the department of San Salvador, 5 for Santa Ana, 3 for San Miguel, 7 for La Libertad, 3 for Usulután, 4 for Sonsonate, 3 for La Paz, 2 for Ahuachapán and 2 by Morazán.

With the 61 legislators, NI achieves a qualified majority in the Legislative Assembly, so it does not need any alliance to approve an initiative of the Salvadoran president.

This number of deputies allows the formation of Bukele to elect the magistrates of the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) and the Court of Accounts, in addition to the general prosecutor and the human rights prosecutor.

It also allows you to ratify constitutional reforms and approve foreign debt.

On the other hand, New Ideas reached 152 mayors of the 262 municipalities that make up the Central American country. Of these, 116 were won by NI, 23 with a coalition with the Party for Democratic Change (CD), 9 with an association with GANA, 1 with a coalition with GANA and CD, 3 with an association with Partido de Concertación Nacional (PCN).

As for the Central American Parliament (Parlacen), New Ideas obtained 14 representations from a coalition with Democratic Change.

OTHER GAMES

The Nationalist Republican Alliance (Arena, right) obtained 14 deputies, the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN) obtained 4 deputies, the GANA 5 formation and the PCN 2 and the Christian Democratic Party (PDC).

They are joined by 2 parliamentarians from the minority parties Nuestro Tiempo (NT) and VAMOS.

At the mayors’ level, Arena remains with 35 localities, the FMLN with 30, GANA with 27, PNC with 14, PDC with 3 and VAMOS with 1.

Currently, of the 262 municipalities in the Central American country, 138 are governed by Arena, 61 by FMNL, 25 by GANA, 24 by PCN, 2 by PDC, 2 by minority parties and the rest are led by coalitions.

In the Parlacen, Arena has 3 representations, 1 the FMLN, 1 GANA and 1 the PCN.

In the February 28 elections, more than 2.7 million Salvadorans went to the polls, out of the 5.3 million called, and they gave the New Ideas (NI) party control of the Legislative Assembly.
