The increase in the price of liquid fuels is accompanied by another phenomenon in 2018: in the first half in Argentina, the number of vehicles converted to compressed natural gas increased by 45.8% (CNG). In total, there were 60,025.

The period from January to June 2017 had closed with 41,156 conversions; this is, 18 869 below the first half of this year, according to data from the National Gas Regulatory Entity (Enargas). So far in July, there were already 4,292 cars that were installed CNG equipment.

The main reason for the increase in conversions this year "is the pocket of the citizens" said GNC House of Commons Deputy Speaker, Pedro González, in a dialogue with TN Autos. "There were still significant differences between liquids and CNG, but now it's bigger," he explained.

The super essence of the city of Buenos Aires (one of the cheapest in the country) costs $ 28.1 per liter, while the service stations of Buenos Aires sell CNG at 12, 17 dollars per cubic meter according to the figures of Enargas.

At least in Federal Capital, gas can be up to 43% cheaper than naphtha. "A taxi driver saves between six and eight thousand pesos a month," said Gonzalez, although gasoline engines offer greater autonomy to cars with CNG. One liter of super naphtha equals 0.885 cubic meters of gas.

In January, CNG in the federal capital cost $ 9.64. The increase during the first half was 26.2 percent . On the other hand, gasoline has increased about 18% over the same period. The cheapest gas is obtained at Chubut ($ 11.74) and Tierra del Fuego ($ 12).

The province of Buenos Aires directed the first half of the year in terms of CNG vehicle conversions, thanks to 28,818 operations (or nearly 50% of the total year). It is followed by Cordova (9,512), Santa Fe (5,460), Tucumán (2,900) and the federal capital (2,782).
