The governor of California, Gavin Newsom will announce Wednesday a moratorium on executions that will benefit the 737 detainees in the state's "death row".
"The death penalty is incompatible with our fundamental values and affects the heart of what it means to be a Californian", according to excerpts of the press speech that Newsom will make, it will sign a decree aimed at preventing the death penalty in that state.
"Killing people intentionally is a mistake, and as governor, I will not allow anyone to be executed" said the governor, who has been opposed to the death penalty for years and who has been responsible for California since January.

According to the governor's office, theCalifornia prisons house a quarter of death row prisoners in the United States. The last run in the state dates back to 2006.
Of the 737 prisoners sentenced to death in California, 25 have exhausted all possible resources.
