Celebrations in New York during the return of light after a four-hour power outage

A few minutes before midnight, in midtown Manhattan, an explosion of light and joy was heard. Finally, electricity had returned, leaving 70,000 people without electricity in New York for more than four hours.

In the midst of a power outage, a choir and troupe of Broadway musicals entertained tourists with impromptu performances in the street. But the spirits started to warm up after the power failure around 7 pm (local time) and lasted until 11:45 pm.

When the streets of Manhattan suddenly lit up, they stood in unison.

The metro stations had to close and the traffic lights stopped working, forcing thousands of people out. "I guess that's what they call a New York moment," wrote a Twitter social network user with a video of a choir singing at sundown.

At Madison Square Garden, the power outage abruptly ended a Jennifer Lopez concert. "Obviously, I am devastated and devastated," said the actress and singer on Twitter. "I'm really sorry that it happened in the middle of our time, in our show."

All Broadway theaters had to close because of the blackout, with the exception of the Winter Garden Theater, the Nederlander Theater and the Lyceum Theater, officials said.

Anthony, a Twitter user, posted a video of the cast of "Hamilton: an American musical", singing from the theater windows in front of the crowd. "It was incredible," he added.

The cut took place after the explosion of a transformer that paralyzed the power supply of the Metro, Broadway stores and theaters.
