The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) reported this Sunday, August 22 that Hurricane Grace, a category three on the Saffir-Simpson scale, left 835,556 users without electricity in Mexico.
Most of those affected reside in Veracruz, where the cyclone struck Saturday morning and caused extensive damage. There, 431,355 customers without electricity were counted, but there were also victims in San Luis Potosí (40,072), Hidalgo (120,071), Puebla (227,383) and Tlaxcala (16,675). So far, they have been able to restore 46% of the service.
When these types of technical failures occur, some utensils connected to the mains such as refrigerators, stoves or coffee makers may be damaged. For these cases, the CFE offers its clients the possibility of claiming damages.
“If your household appliances, household appliances and other property have suffered damage due to a power failure attributable to CFE, you can quickly, easily and free of charge to initiate the corresponding procedure,” explains the company on its website.

Requirements for submitting the procedure
Those who want to register the claim to claim damage to their devices will need to meet the following conditions:
– Have a current contract for the supply of energy with CFE Supplier of Basic Services.
– The Service must be up to date in the payment of its receipts.
– Present an original and a copy of a valid official identity document of the owner of the service.
– In the event of representation by a third party, the representative must issue a power of attorney, simple or notarized, as well as an original and a copy of each person’s official identity document.
– Submit a free writing for damage caused to electrical appliances, electrical goods or others.
– Proof of ownership or, if you are not the owner of the service, you must prove the use of the property (lease, sale, etc.).
– The request for payment of damages must be presented within 30 days from the date on which the failure occurred, in which the customer will indicate the approximate date and time of the failure, describing it in In General.
– Fill out the “claim form for damage to electrical appliances or other property” in the Customer Service Center.
How long does it take to resolve the request?
The CFE will have a maximum of 10 working days to resolve the process. The customer can check the status of the process by dialing 071, or by going in person to the Customer Service Center.
