Chile: Hundreds of passengers stranded at Santiago Airport, including Cordoba

Hundreds of passengers were stranded at Santiago airport over the weekend after the cancellation of their flights because of the curfew imposed in the Chilean capital following the violent protests that took place unfolded over the last three days.

Some people from Cordoba contacted The voice and said that they were stuck since Saturday.

Lying on the ground next to their suitcases in the middle of the night and nowhere to go, travelers could not board their flights or return to town because of the restriction of the freedom of movement of people established by the 39th Army since Sunday at 19 hours. (22:00 GMT) until 6 o'clock on Monday.

While the army took charge of maintaining law and order in the streets of Santiago and its outskirts, impotence and resignation were evident in the airport terminal.

Despite this, around 1 am, passengers had the joy of receiving water, fruit juices, blankets and biscuits to partially mitigate the waiting.

The National Emergency Office (Onemi) and the Ministry of Public Works (MOP), in collaboration with the airline Latam and with the collaboration of the companies of the food sector, have set up an urban transport bus loaded with equipment to deliver free to people stranded in Santiago, reported the agency EFE.

Latam, the main airline operating in Santiago, has canceled all its scheduled flights at dawn, according to an official statement posted on its website.

The same thing happened with the flights of other airlines that work in the Chilean capital or stop at this airport.
