Chile: mother beat her 7-year-old son to death

A woman was arrested for parricide in Punitaqui, Coquimbo, Chile, after hitting her 7-year-old son with a belt and a wooden spoon, who died while receiving medical treatment.

The incident occurred on the night of Tuesday, April 20, when Punitaqui police received a call from a woman requesting an ambulance. Given the zero response, she decided to take the minor to the emergency room in her truck. Upon entering the local hospital, health workers confirmed the severity of the case and the mother’s desperation. “I killed him, I killed him, I hit him, he fell out of bed, I killed him”the woman screamed several times, according to the local newspaper. After that, the boy died at the medical center.

A hospital official reported that the boy received “cardiovascular resuscitation for 30 minutes” to no avail. At 8:25 p.m. his death was confirmed.

Dozens of cars, motorcycles, relatives and townspeople joined in the duel after the sudden loss. In front of the school where he studied, the Sali Hochschilds, principals, teachers, parents and students, gathered to shower petals in an atmosphere of pain and helplessness. Posters in front of the institution, some written by the children themselves, read “Justice for the Marquitos”, “Fly high Marco”, “Children protect themselves”.

During the judicial formalization hearing, the details of the autopsy delivered by the legal medical service were made, where it was pointed out that the child had died as a result of traumatic pulmonary edema due to multiple traumas. .

If at first it would have been indicated that the father of the minor would have helped the transfer to the medical center, this was dismissed by the same family and by the Carabineros, who stressed that at the time of the patricide, the father was going precisely to Calama to join the mining company where you work.

The 33-year-old detainee has not registered any precautionary measures or previous complaints of domestic violence. Over the next few hours, he will go to the Ovalle Guarantee Court detention review, while his son’s body will be transferred to the Legal Medical Service (SML) to establish the precise cause of his death.
