Chile recorded a day without coronavirus deaths for the first time since March 2020. This was reported in his daily bulletin on Department of Health Statistics and Information.
Although the reports of December 28, 2020 and January 5 of this year did not show any deaths, the Minister of Health, Enrique Paris, explained that it was due to the way the deaths were handled, considering that they were days after the long holidays for the Christmas and New Year holidays.
With that, Chile’s total coronavirus death toll remains at 37,253.
Regarding contagions, this tuesday 297 new. The positivity was 1%. Of the new cases, 79 had symptoms, 100 were asymptomatic, and 18 corresponded to unreported PCR tests.
The total accumulated cases in Chile amounted to 1,644,832, of which 1,601,955 are recovered.
These figures are known a day later The country has started vaccinating children between 6 and 12 years old with the Chinese Coronavac.
The first to get vaccinated this week will be children with specific comorbidities, while from September 26, all children will be able to do so.
“Children can get sick too. 12% of the cases we have had in our country in this year and a half are children under the age of 18“Said the Under Secretary for Public Health, Paula Daza.
The Institute of Public Health (ISP) vaccination authorized last Monday with the Sinovac laboratory injection for children over 6 years old, thus converting to Chile is the first country in South America to give the green light to vaccination for this age group.
Chile had already approved the use of the vaccine in June Pfizer / BioNTech for children over 12 years old and nearly 700,000 have already received at least one dose.
“Today we do not have vaccines for children under 6 years old, but if we vaccinate the whole family we will act in a cocoon way, protecting the little ones.“Daza said.
Vaccines, said the Under Secretary, “They are safe, effective and, in addition to protecting each person, they are an act of solidarity”.
More than 13.2 of the country’s 19 million people have already completed their immunization schedule, of whom 2.2 million who had been inoculated with Coronavac – the most widely used in the country – have already received a third dose.
A University of Chile study revealed last week showed that the Pfizer vaccine maintained its IgG antibody positivity above 90% after 20 weeks of its application, while with the Sinovac formula a gradual decline is observed up to about 40% during this period.
The pandemic, which had its most serious peak between March and June last and forced 90% of the population to confine themselves again, it’s been weeks. The authorities have, however, maintained the curfew from 00:00 to 05:00 and the closure of borders for tourists since last April.
