Chilean madness and horror: a man hit a group of protesters with his car and killed two people

The institutional crisis in Chile is endless. It is in the midst of the fierce crackdown by police and armed forces against protesters, a drunk man has intensified the chaos by hitting – at high speed – a group of people protesting on Highway 160, near the city from Villa Los Escritores to San Pedro de la Paz. Following the violent attack, a 20-year-old boy and a 4-year-old boy died, while 11 people were injured.

The event occurred after 22:30 on Wednesday, when residents of the area interrupted the route to make a "cacerolazo". A video, captured by a zone surveillance camera, shows how the vehicle in question is accelerating in the direction of the group of people.

Three ambulances and several fire brigades went to the scene. All affected people were transferred to the Concepción Regional Hospital.

After outrage, the neighbors knocked over the vehicle involved and hit the driver, causing injuries to his face.

The Carabineros Traffic Accident Investigation Section (SIAT) clarifies the circumstances of the event. By the time it turned out that the driver was stopped. He was driving drunk and "registered 1.28 grams of alcohol in the blood," the authorities said.
