Chile’s plan to vaccinate its entire population over 16 by the end of June

This Sunday, Chilean health and government authorities received 2.2 million Sinovac-type vaccines, which will help initiate inoculation for the young population between 26 and 29 years old during this week.

According to the authorities present at the arrival of this Sunday, This shipment is the largest that Chile has received since the start of the mass vaccination plan last February.

Until the arrival date of this new shipment, There are already a total of 21,022,276 doses that have reached the country.

From the previous number, approximately 17,171,476 vaccines correspond to Sinovac, 3,361,020 to Pfizer-BioNTech and 489,600 to Oxford-AstraZeneca. These only apply to women over 55 and men over 18.

In Chile, 17,318,719 doses have already been administered. People vaccinated with the first dose alone total 9,619,890, while those inoculated with the two doses are already 7,698,822. 63.3% of the target population (15.2 million people) received the first dose and 50.6% have already completed the full immunization schedule.

It should be remembered that in the last few weeks approximately 272,610 vaccines from Pfizer and 331,200 from AstraZeneca have also arrived in Chile via the global Covax mechanism.

What’s the next step from now on

Following the arrival of these new 2.2 million Sinovac vaccines, Chile will continue to massively vaccinate its youth segment, to try to keep the promise to vaccinate the entire target population (15.2 million over 16 years) by the end of June.

From this Monday, vaccination of the first doses has been started for young people between 26 and 29 years old. In parallel, vaccination will also advance for those who correspond to the second dose, for pregnant women from 16 weeks gestation and for latecomers aged 30 or over, and chronic from 18 to 24 years old.

For next week, that is to say From Monday May 31 to Friday June 4, the Chilean vaccination plan will be extended to young people between 23 and 25 years old. At the same time, it will also continue to vaccinate those who receive the second vaccine, pregnant women and late arrivals aged 26 or older.

“Mobility pass” for Chile

Amid the aftermath of its second wave of coronavirus, Chile decided that from this week, it will provide its population with a “Mobility Pass” for those who have completed the inoculation process with both vaccines.

Just this Monday, for example, 5,374 new cases of coronavirus and 30 deaths have been recorded. While the number of active cases is 40,780 cases.

However, the previous initiative was presented this Sunday, and will offer greater mobility of vaccines in quarantined municipalities. In addition, the beneficiary you can make interregional trips, which is not allowed today.

The “Mobility Pass” is available from this Monday, and during the last hours, the Chilean government has made a strong defense in favor of its initiative. According to the Minister of the Interior, Rodrigo Delgado, at this stage the “people must feel” the effort that he did during those months of detention.

“It’s not that we give everyone freedom with this pass, but he is precisely the groups that behave more responsibly today, plus the second doses at 14 days, it seems that starting with this discussion is quite reasonable from a health and social point of view, ”Minister Delgado said on Monday.

The measure was celebrated by the tourism and gastronomy unions. the president of the Federation of Tourism Companies of Chile (Fedetur), Ricardo Margulis, has announced that he believes there will be a restart of activities due to this document, and assured that “it is a small ray of hope”.
