Chinese regime attacked Canada for response to sentences against Canadian citizens in Beijing

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Hua Chunying, attacked Canada on Thursday for his conviction of Beijing court sentences against Canadian citizens Michael Spavor and Robert Lloyd Schellenberg, in a case believed to be linked to the legal battle for the extradition of Chinese tech company Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou.

“China strongly condemns the behavior of Canada to ally with a few countries and to confuse right and wrong in the treatment of cases of Canadian citizens by Chinese courts”, he said.

“Canada has seriously violated China’s judicial sovereignty and violated the spirit of the rule of law”, riveted, according to the ‘Global Times’.

Canada called these judgments “absolutely unacceptable and unfair”, a message supported by various statements from the European Union and the United States.

The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, shared that his country joins “the international community in calling on China to immediately and unconditionally release Spavor and Michael Kovrig, who were arrested in December 2018. to, supposedly, endanger the security of the Chinese state.

“We continue to condemn these arbitrary detentions (…) Spavor and Kovrig did not enjoy minimum procedural protections for more than two and a half years of arbitrary detention”, said in a statement.

In this direction, Blinken reiterated his call to China to release all those arbitrarily arrested because he considers it “unacceptable” to exert “pressure on foreign governments”.

“The United States also remains deeply concerned about the lack of transparency surrounding these legal proceedings,” he said, and called on the Asian giant to “accept requests from Canadian officials and other foreign diplomats to assist to their debates ”.

This week, the Chinese regime’s justice ratified the death sentence passed on Schellenberg for drug trafficking and sentenced Spavor to 11 years in prison for spying and illegally supplying state secrets abroad.

Meng’s case in a Vancouver court last week entered its final stages, more than two and a half years after his arrest, although China has consistently maintained that there is no connection between his case and the lawsuits against Canadian citizens in the Asian giant.
