On July 15, the mayor of Bogotá, Claudia lopez, announced that in August the implementation of “pilots” for the return of football, concerts and rumba to Bogotá would be examined. And this Sunday, ten days later, he announced that work would begin on them.

On her Twitter account, the president of the capital wrote: “After a lot of effort and care, this week we will have the indicators to start the opening pilots of football, concerts and discos”. Thus, both citizens and entertainment unions affected by the pandemic will soon know the parameters of this necessary step to be taken for the benefit of an almost total economic reactivation of the city.

The mayor also clarified that despite the “pilots”, it is vital that those residing in Bogotá continue to comply with biosecurity protocols and be vaccinated against covid-19.

“Yes, we have to continue to take care of ourselves and to vaccinate to continue to reactivate the economy and life with biosecurity,” López said.

The reactivation is made possible by the decrease in the occupation of intensive care units (ICU) in the capital. According to the Bogotá Health Observatory (Saludata), Covid ICUs are 71.8% and, overall, 73.4% occupied.

Since the date on which the mayor gave an overview of the drivers for the reopening of the entertainment sector, that is to say on July 15, the occupancy rate of the UCI has decreased by more than 10%. On this date, the president assured: “It took us almost three months to get out of this peak, which looked like Everest, it was three very painful months, but finally we got out of the red alert, we went down to 84% occupancy of intensive care covid.

For the past two weeks, Claudia López has been urging citizens to be vaccinated, regardless of the laboratory from which the assigned doses come. “Believe me, AstraZeneca, Sinovac or Janssen protect you better than anything, this is what can rigorously and scientifically protect us from being infected”, he assured.

The president also referred to the circulation of Delta variant of covid-19 and said it could generate a fourth peak in infections, so he asked not to relax and take care of both his own health and the health of others.

“Vaccination, masks, hand washing, distancing, biosecurity protocols are what protect us. Bogotá is like the rest of the world, exposed to the fact that the Delta variant of covid-19, which is currently the one circulating the most contagion, is again causing us a fourth waveTherefore, we cannot let our guard down, we have to vaccinate and take care of ourselves, ”he concluded.

Saturday July 24 President Ivan Duque confirmed that the first case of the Delta variant of Covid-19 has already been recorded in Colombia; is was registered in Cali, the capital of Valle del Cauca.

“The work carried out by the INS – National Institute of Health – was very rigorous to detect all kinds of variants on the national territory. It is noteworthy that the INS has identified the presence of the Delta variant in our country, in a case that has been submitted for consideration in the city of Cali», Declared the head of state.

Fortunately, the patient with the delta variant was not hospitalized and did not have serious complications during the process. “This is an imported case, a patient from the United States. His general condition is good, he is coming out of the disease. We have put forward an epidemiological closure for her and her family which allows us to control contacts», Informed the mayor of Cali, Jorge Iván Ospina.

Although the case has been made public so far, the person who has been confirmed as the first case with the delta variant has been isolated since July 2 (more than 20 days ago) because only until Friday evening and after performing a genomic monitoring process, it was found that this was indeed the case with the new variant.
