The case of Jorge Andrés Colmenares turned 10 years old in October of last year, almost seven years after the events, on February 20, 2017, the sentence of the case was pronounced at first instance, in this decision Laura Moreno and Jessy Quintero expected what would happen to the homicide and cover-up charges leveled by the prosecution against them, but the assumption that they were responsible for the death of Luis Andrés Colmenares on Halloween night in 2010.

According to the court instance, Colmenares fell and the judge ended up acquitting the two women, arguing that due to the location of the cellphones, calls and forensic advice, it was proven that he there had been no murder but that the young man was dead. when he fell in the channel of El Virrey Park, north of Bogotá.

As expected, the prosecutor’s office and the victim’s family appealed against the conviction and the entire case was forwarded to the Superior Court of Bogotá. The magistrate to whom the case was entrusted said he was hampered because he had already rendered a decision in the case of Carlos Cárdenas, the ex-boyfriend of Laura Moreno and also accused of killing Colmenares that night .

The prosecution could not prove it either, and he was acquitted at first instance after determining that he was sleeping at home that night.Thus, in a second step, the magistrate Urbano confirmed the acquittal, but not before having declared that someone had killed the young man that night. This Wednesday, May 19, 2021, the second instance decision against Laura Moreno and Jessy Quintero will be known.

Here, the court will rule again on the participation of the two young women in the death of Luis Andrés Colmenares. In the family’s appeal, the entities said documentary and testimonial evidence in the case had not been taken into account, according to the documents, the participation of the two students was demonstrated.

In addition, they asked for an assessment of the times Moreno incurred in contradictions in his testimony, as he repeatedly changed the story.

In an interview with El Tiempo, Colmenares brother Jorge Colmenares, who is currently an adviser, said that if the court reiterates the innocence of Laura and Jessy “It would be a very hard blow because everyone tried to strengthen their life, to move forward and to realize that when we seek justice, there are obstacles, because it hurts.”

Whereas if they are found guilty at the hearing, for the family it would be “Do it again, because we would have to see who murdered my brother, who are they covering, what is the version?” For now, the family is awaiting the court’s decision, which will be released on Wednesday, May 19.

A few days ago there was talk of a possible reversal of the case due to a published photo in which a blow to the young man’s head was seen, but Luis Alfonso and Jessy Quintero’s defense clarified that the photo was not new. and that it is part of the evidence presented by the prosecutor’s office.
