Comodorense sentenced to life imprisonment for femicide in Coyhaique

Cristian Fabián Díaz arrived in the neighboring country in 2020 and eight months later raped and stabbed a 21-year-old girl to death. He was sentenced to life imprisonment and had previously been convicted of the crime of injury in Comodoro.

The 43-year-old man from Como arrived in the town of Coyhaique on February 5, 2020 and 8 months later was arrested as a prime suspect for sexually abusing Julia Mansilla and then stabbing her in dead.

According to the investigation by prosecutor Luis Contreras Alfaro, Díaz entered the victim’s house that morning on October 1. The scientific evidence gathered proved the violence displayed by the man against the victim, which he killed from multiple puncture wounds.

The court of first instance criminal sentenced Díaz on Tuesday, August 31, to life imprisonment. It was for the crimes of rape with femicide. They also sentenced him to an additional 300 days for violently trespassing on his home.

The case was handled by the Coyhaique PDI Homicide Squad, which gathered valuable evidence and testimony. They also took away the murderous knife and the stolen cell phone from the young woman.

During the debate, the Office of the Prosecutor presented approximately 23 documentary evidence, 17 witnesses and experts, 18 expert reports and 7 other pieces of evidence. In addition, during the trial, the National Service for Women and Gender Equity participated as the plaintiff in the case.
