Coronavirus: Argentina overtook the United States in number of deaths per million population

Argentina surpassed the United States on Friday in the number of coronavirus deaths per million population, official data showed.

According to the Worldometer portal, which compiles the data provided by each administration, Argentina records 33,136 deaths due to Covid-19 with a population of 45,341,031 inhabitants, a rate of 731 deaths per million inhabitants.

With these figures, the country ranks 9th in the world, behind San Marino (1237), Belgium (1079), Peru (1050), Andorra (970), Spain (830), Brazil (760), Chile (754) and Bolivia (748).

The site Our World in Data, meanwhile, does not consider the micro-states of San Martino and Andorra on its list (they record 42 and 75 deaths respectively) and places Argentina in 6th place.

During the day, Brazil recorded 256 deaths compared to 371 confirmed in Argentina, which with 1,400 new deaths could reach the figures of its Portuguese-speaking neighbor.

Behind Argentina are now the United States (730), Mexico (725), Ecuador (719), United Kingdom (713), Italy (672), Panama (638), Colombia (634) and France (610).

In terms of the number of tests, Argentina is ranked 113 in the world, with a rate of 70,081 tests per million people.
