Faced with a sustained increase in coronavirus cases, the Justice of the State of Rio de Janeiro ordered this Thursday the closure of all commercial and tourist activities in the seaside resort of Buzios. The measure provoked protests and cacerolazos before the local administration.

Court ruling gave all tourists 72 hours to leave town, and return to an almost total suspension of non-essential activities. For its part, the municipal government accepted the decision as it prepares an appeal.

Merchants and businessmen from the hotel industry, including dozens of Argentines living in this city, came this morning to Armação dos Buzios Square, in the center of the tourist village, to protest against the measure.

The decision indicates that restaurants will only be able to act with delivery and that hotels will not be able to operate, precisely during the high season, which takes place the week between Christmas and New Year.

According to the resolution, you cannot stay on beaches or in public areas, in addition to the ban on parties, dances, shows, fairs or the like.

Buzios has seen a sudden increase in cases since he completely relaxed his activities: in seven days, the positives have risen from 744 to 968 current.

Since the start of the pandemic, 21 people have died in Buzios, while across the state of Rio de Janeiro there have been 24,109 deaths.
