The Ministry of Health and Prevention United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Wednesday registered the coronavirus vaccine developed by Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinopharm and the Beijing Institute of Biologics, which demonstrated “86% effectiveness” against the virus. It is one of the vaccines tested in Argentina.

In a press release issued by the UAE state agency WAM, the country’s health department said that this vaccine, which was authorized for emergency use by UAE medical personnel in September, was “86% effective” against the coronavirus.

According to the analyzes, the vaccine also has a “99% neutralizing antibody seroconversion rate and 100% efficacy in preventing moderate and severe cases of the disease.”.

The UAE Ministry of Health has also indicated that in studies there have been no serious safety concerns with the vaccine.

The statement claims that the UAE’s registration of the vaccine represents “an important vote of confidence by the UAE health authorities in the safety and efficacy of this vaccine.”

Phase 3 clinical trials of this vaccine began on July 3 and included 31,000 volunteers from 125 nationalities in the Emirates alone.

Sinopharm is developing two different vaccines, both against inactivated virus: one with the Institute of Biologics in Wuhan and the other with the Institute of Biologics in Beijing.

These two Sinopharm vaccines have been used in China in special cases since last August, mainly among medical and military personnel, as well as diplomats employed abroad, who have already received their dose.

Clinical trials of Sinopharm vaccines have been conducted in United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Peru and Argentina.
