While the cases of coronavirus increase in the world, with the appearance of new strains that cause the transmission of the virus, European infectologists have detected the “covid language”, a new symptom present in infected patients that is in addition to more well-known signs such as fever, muscle pain, respiratory distress and cough.

British professor and scientist Tim Spector, The King’s College London epidemiologist posted a photo of the symptom on Twitter and asked patients to be aware of possible signs of this new consequence of the disease, such as changes in the color and texture of the tongue.

“One in five people with covid still have less common symptoms that aren’t on the official PHE list, such as rashes. I have seen an increasing number of covid tongues and strange mouth ulcers. For its part, Gabriel Scally, a public health physician and chair of epidemiology and public health at the Royal Society of Medicine, told the newspaper The sun What the virus can produce “effects on a wide range of bodily systems”.

Certain diseases that affect the immune system can attack the tongue, causing changes such as pain, discoloration, swelling, or strange texture.

Other problems may be due to underlying conditions. In the case of the tongue, some variations can be the result of poor oral hygiene, smoking, or unhealthy diet, among some issues to consider.

Throughout the pandemic, different symptoms have been added, taken into account as an alert to possible cases of covid-19. Fever, muscle aches, shortness of breath and cough were the main signs to suspect if a person had coronavirus.

However, the appearance of new strains of coronavirus in recent weeks in Europe and the strong growth of cases, mainly in England and Spain, have led infectologists to detect this new symptom in infected people.
