Coronavirus: Germany has included Argentina in its list of high-risk countries

The federal government of Germany has included Argentina in its list of high risk countries amid the increase in positive cases and deaths recorded in recent weeks.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI), responsible for coordinating and managing the official COVID-19 strategy, announced in its April 16 report that Argentina “is now considered a high impact area”.

The agency uses this description to discriminate “areas at particularly high risk of infection due to a particularly high incidence of the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus”.

It thus joins Egypt, Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Bahrain, Bolivia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Chile, Ecuador, Estonia, France, Iran, Jordan , Colombia, Kosovo, Croatia, Kuwait, Lebanon, Mexico, Moldova, Montenegro, the Netherlands – including the autonomous countries and the overseas parts of the Kingdom of the Netherlands – , North Macedonia, Palestinian Territories, Paraguay, Peru, Poland, Sweden, Serbia, Seychelles, Slovenia, Sudan, Syrian Arab Republic, Tanzania, Czech Republic, Turkey, Ukraine, Hungary, Uruguay and Cyprus.

By virtue of this novelty, Germans returning from Argentina – where flights are very restricted – must present a negative PCR test or else be rejected and forced to return to their place of origin. They will also have to do a 10 day quarantine which can be suspended in advance if another test is done after five which returns negative.

The Nation’s Ministry of Health reported this Thursday, April 15, 2021 that, over the past 24 hours, 383 deaths and 24,999 new coronavirus infections have been recorded. With these figures, the total number of people infected since the start of the pandemic stands at 2,629,156 and the fatal victims at 58,925.
