Another 112 people have died from coronavirus and 7,140 new infections have been added in the past 24 hours across the country, bringing the total number of deaths to 36,902 and the number of people infected to 1,366,182 since the start of the pandemic, in March, reported this Saturday the Ministry of Health of the Nation.
The Group of 20 (G20) on Saturday kicked off a virtual summit hosted by Saudi Arabia with calls from its leaders to coordinate responses to the coronavirus and its devastating economic consequences.
“We have the firm decision to implement active public policies to contain, support, revive the economy and maintain financial stability. And for this we will use all the fiscal, monetary and regulatory tools that are within our reach.“Said the Argentine President Alberto Fernandez.
The pandemic, which has already killed more than 1.37 million people, has provided the G20 with an opportunity to demonstrate that such organizations can facilitate international cooperation in the face of the crisis, while also revealing their limitations.
“We have an obligation to take up this challenge at this summit and to send a strong message of hope and relief”, said the king Salman from Saudi Arabia, the country which chairs the G20 this year and the first Arab to hold one of its annual summits.
The virus has reappeared with force around the world, particularly in the United States and Europe, where restrictions, including quarantines, have been made.
According to the WHO, more cases of the coronavirus have been reported in the past four weeks than in the first six months of the pandemic.
The International Labor Organization (ILO) said the pandemic has lost the equivalent of 225 million jobs in G20 countries alone and in the first four months of 2020.
G20 countries have already spent more than $ 21 billion to fight the coronavirus. Some $ 11 trillion has also been mobilized to save the global economy, organizers say.
