Coronavirus: Israel to lift all restrictions on June 1

TEL AVIV.- Israel maintains it has overcome the coronavirus pandemic and will lift almost all restrictions from June 1. This was announced today by Minister of Health Yuli Edelstein.

“Less than six months ago, we started to vaccinate and we carried out the best vaccination campaign in the world,” he said.

All activities can now be resumed, although in closed rooms, the use of a chin strap or a mask will remain compulsory.

The biggest concern, Edelstein added, is the entry and exit of Israel. On this front, the precautionary measures are still in force “and could even be reinforced”.

Due to the extensive and accelerated vaccination campaign, Israel phased out the use of masks or chin straps outdoors during the last month of April. The measure, according to Edelstein, was taken on the basis of advice from health experts. In addition, the official said that “The morbidity level in Israel is very low thanks to our successful vaccination campaign and therefore we can relax the restrictions further.”.

The suspension of restrictions has been analyzed for weeks by the Israeli government. Likewise, last month the Middle Eastern country saw the return of the education system in its entirety and without bubble group measures.

Israel has had one of the most successful coronavirus vaccination campaigns with 5.1 million citizens receiving the full immunization schedule.
