Coronavirus outbreak in China: Guangzhou city banned from going outside without negative test

The southeastern Chinese city of Canton As of Monday, it banned its residents from moving to other places without a negative coronavirus test certificate after the last outbreak recorded in the city.

In a press release published this Sunday, the municipality specifies that from 10:00 a.m. local time (02:00 GMT), You will not be able to leave the city by airports, train stations or highways without the aforementioned certificate, which must have been issued within the last 72 hours, nor the corresponding health QR code.

Authorities have said they will offer free refunds or exchanges to those who have planned trips and cannot take the test in time.

Likewise, points will be established to achieve free COVID tests for truckers with the aim of “guaranteeing the normal functioning of cargo vehicles”.

Canton has 9.5 million inhabitants and it is the capital of the province of the same name, the main one in China in commercial terms.

Regrowth added 20 new local infections of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in the past 24 hours in the province among the 27 total cases announced on Monday by the National Health Commission of China.

According to the local press, the person responsible for this latest outbreak is a India’s SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus mutation, which appears to be more contagious and to spread faster.

It is regrowth began on May 21 and has since left 47 confirmed cases, 21 of which have no symptoms.

Research indicates that the first case would be that of a 75-year-old woman who had dinner with friends in a restaurant of Liwan district, in Canton, the most affected in the city and whose authorities have already decreed the confinement of two of its neighborhoods.

The Official Journal Global Times points out that the restrictions have led to the cancellation of more than 500 flights at Baiyun International Airport, in the city of Canton, more than 37% of the total.

This newspaper adds that the provincial capital completed this Saturday the first phase of massive coronavirus tests, with 2.25 million tests carried out.

Since the start of the pandemic and the almost total closure of Chinese borders, Guangzhou has been the province that has recorded the most arrivals from abroad, with around 90% of the national total.
