The Department of Health’s SARS CoV-2 genomic surveillance report found that the Manaus variant (known worldwide as Gamma) it is most prevalent in all regions of the country with 41 percent of all cases, followed by the Andinas (Lambda) with 37% and the British (Alpha) with 14%. The sampling concluded that 52 percent of the variants circulating are “of concern”, due to the levels of transmission.

The results of the report emerge from 1,077 samples taken from infected people with no history of travel abroad, which were sequenced by the National Institute ANLIS Malbrán. On the other hand, from January to June 14, genomic sequencing was carried out on 248 samples from travelers who entered the country and who tested positive.

In this study, 89 cases of Gamma variant in travelers from Mexico, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia and Paraguay. While in 55 cases, the Alpha (UK) variant of travelers from the US, Mexico, Spain, Bangladesh, Panama and Paraguay was detected.

Regarding the Beta (South Africa) and Delta (India) variants only one case was detected for each mutation. For the former it was a passenger from Spain, while for the Delta sIt was a passenger from the United States. The head of migration, Florencia Carignano, updated this figure last Monday, specifying that three cases of the Delta variant had already been detected in the country and expected that the controls would be strengthened to delay their entry into the country.

Based on the percentage distribution of samples corresponding to priority and non-priority variants in travelers, 36 percent correspond to Gamma; 22% to Alpha; 6 percent to Lambda, while 28 percent to non-priority variants.
