The demonstration of the loyalty of a dog to its owner moves the state of Tamaulipas, Mexico. For more than 30 days, the animal waited in front of the Nuevo Laredo hospital to his life partner, who entered the health center with symptoms of coronavirus and died shortly after from the illness. Concerned by the recent arrival of winter in the region, the women traveled to Tamaulipas to help Covito, who was still standing at the entrance to the hospital.

“I finally found Covito, his story broke my soul, but he will no longer walk the streets. I’m taking her to my little shelter, where there are a total of 43 stray puppies and kittens, ”Kendra posted on Facebook. However, the woman could only offer him a temporary stay.

Once vaccinated and checked by a vet, Covito was moved to a new shelter in Laredo, Texas, where the foundation promised to find him a new house.

The case of “Xiaobao” in China

Covito’s story has a similar precedent in China’s Hubei Province, where a dog waited three months for its owner who died of a coroanvirus.

The animal and man arrived in Wuhan Taikang hospital in the center of the country in February. But just five days later, the second became one of 3,869 COVID-19 deaths reported at the time in the jurisdiction.

From that point on, the animal spent more than three months sitting at the entrance to the health center not knowing what had happened to its owner and was nicknamed “Xiaobao” (in Chinese, “little treasure”) by the staff of the place, who took care of it.

Finally, given the increase in coronavirus cases recorded in May at the hospital, nurses contacted the Wuhan Small Animal Welfare Association to help them take care of the dog until he was adopted by a new family.
