LThe judge of the State of Rio de Janeiro has decided the closure of all commercial and tourist activities in the seaside resort of Buzios due to the increase in cases of coronavirus, which caused a demonstration with crowds and cacerolazos of businessmen from the sector in front of the mayor of one of the most important tourist destinations in Brazil.

The decision of the Court of Justice of the State of Rio de Janeiro gave 72 hours for all tourists to leave town, which he asks to return to the “red flag”, that is to say to an almost total closure of non-essential activities. The quartermaster accepted the decision but is preparing an appeal.

Merchants and businessmen from the hotel industry, including dozens of Argentines living in this city, came this morning to Armação dos Buzios Square, in the center of the tourist village, to protest against the measure.

The decision indicates that restaurants will only be able to act with delivery and that hotels will not be able to operate, precisely during the high season, which takes place the week between Christmas and New Year.

The court decision establishes that it will not be possible to stay on beaches or in public spaces, in addition to the ban on parties, dances, shows, fairs or the like.

Buzios has seen a sudden increase in cases since he completely relaxed his activities: in seven days, the positives have risen from 744 to 968 current.

Since the start of the pandemic, 21 people have died in Buzios, while across the state of Rio de Janeiro there have been 24,109 deaths.
